Common Embedded Signup errors when connecting WhatsApp Business API

What each error in Meta's connection window means, how to check it in Business Manager, and when to contact our team instead of retrying.

When you connect a number through Channels → New WhatsApp Connection → WhatsApp Business API, a window from Meta opens. That window is Meta's Embedded Signup, not part of 2Chat. When it shows an error, the cause is almost always something in your Meta Business Manager — which means retrying in 2Chat won't change the result until it's fixed there.

Find your error below. Each one tells you what it means, what to check, and whether it's something you can fix or something we need to fix for you.

"The business is already sharing this WhatsApp Business account with a partner"

What it means: Your WhatsApp Business Account (WABA) is already linked to a solution partner. Usually this comes from an earlier connection attempt that was started but never finished — with us, or with another platform you tried before.

How to check who the partner is:

  1. In the left menu, open Accounts → WhatsApp Accounts

  2. Select the WABA you're trying to connect

  3. Open the Partners tab

What to do, depending on what you see:

  • Another provider you used before — remove the partner there, then start the connection again in 2Chat.

  • 2Chat listed as a partner, and you never added it — this one you cannot fix yourself, and you shouldn't try. It means a signup was started against our app and never completed, which leaves your WABA linked to us. Contact our team and we'll unlink it from our side. Send us your WhatsApp Business Account ID and the phone number you're trying to connect.

One thing that often confuses people: if the same number reaches the QR screen on a different provider, that does not mean the WABA is free. The partner link belongs to the WhatsApp Business Account, not to the phone number. A number can be eligible while its WABA is still held by a partner.

"You already have a WhatsApp Business account" or the number is already registered

What it means: The phone number is already registered to a WhatsApp Business Account — either one of yours, or one created during a previous attempt.

What to do:

  • In WhatsApp Accounts, check whether the number already appears under one of your WABAs. If it does and you don't need that WABA, delete the number from it and retry.

  • If the number is currently active in the WhatsApp Business app and you want to keep using the app, don't delete anything — you need the coexistence path instead. Choose the option that says you already use the WhatsApp Business App when you start the connection.

  • If the number belongs to a WABA you can't see or access, contact us with the number and we'll help you trace where it's registered.

Registration fails with error 141000 or 141006

What it means: These codes come back from Meta at the final registration step — after the signup window has already closed successfully. The connection looks like it worked, but the number never becomes usable.

What to do: These are Meta-side registration failures and the exact cause varies. Contact us with the error code and the phone number. We can read the full failure reason on our side and tell you whether it's a retry, a two-step PIN issue, or something that needs to be cleared in your Business Manager first. Retrying on your own usually reproduces the same error.

The signup finished, but the number never appeared in 2Chat

What it means: Meta's window closed without an error, but no channel shows up in Channels. This is most common on coexistence connections, where the number stays active in the WhatsApp Business app.

What to do:

  • Give it a few minutes and reload Channels — coexistence connections can take longer to finish than a new number.

  • Confirm the number appears under WhatsApp Accounts → your WABA → Phone numbers in Business Manager. If it's not there, the signup didn't complete and you can start again.

  • If it is there but 2Chat doesn't show it, contact us. Don't start a second signup — a second attempt can create a duplicate WABA that then blocks the first one.

"I don't have a Meta Business account"

What it means: WhatsApp Business API requires a Meta Business Manager portfolio. A personal Facebook account isn't enough, and a Facebook Page on its own isn't enough either.

What to do: Create one at business.facebook.com/overview. You'll need your legal business name, a website, and a business email address. It usually takes a few minutes. Once it exists, come back to Channels and start the connection again.

You don't need your business to be verified by Meta before connecting. Verification affects your messaging limits later, not your ability to connect.

Still stuck?

If none of the above matches what you're seeing, or if you followed the steps and the error repeats, start a chat with us and include:

  • The exact error text or code from Meta's window

  • Your WhatsApp Business Account ID

  • The phone number you're connecting, in full international format

  • Whether the number is currently active in the WhatsApp Business app

Embedded Signup errors are usually account-state problems rather than setup mistakes, so a screenshot of the error plus those four details is normally enough for us to resolve it without any back and forth.
