How to add an SMS channel

Add an SMS channel by purchasing a 2Chat virtual number with SMS capability.

Updated today
  • Go to Channels > SMS: SMS channels are created automatically when you buy a virtual number with SMS capability.

  • Start a virtual number purchase. Open New Virtual Number. Make sure the account has an active subscription and a valid payment method: the setup fee and first month are charged at purchase.

  • Pick an SMS-capable number. Filter by country and number type, then hover each result's capability icons. The SMS icon tooltip reads SMS (receiving only) when only inbound SMS is available, so pick a number that matches the direction you need. SMS capability cannot be added later.

  • Check regulatory requirements. Some countries require local identity or address documents (A2P or local presence). Open the Compliance with local regulations tab on the number and confirm you can provide everything listed before you buy.

  • Add to cart and check out. Click Add number, review the Numbers shopping cart, then click Proceed to Checkout.

  • On Confirm Your Purchase, click Confirm Purchase. The purchase is non-refundable. You'll see Numbers purchased successfully! when provisioning completes. If it fails, retry or pick a different number.

  • Return to Channels > SMS: click the new channel to open SMS Channel Configuration and use the toggle to enable or disable it. The Source channel field is read-only: to change the phone number or friendly name, edit the parent VoIP channel.
