Creation and Administration of Templates

To initiate a conversation with a customer (or respond after 24 hours of inactivity), WhatsApp requires the use of Message Templates approved by Meta.

Prerequisites for Template Management

Before creating your templates, ensure the following requirements are met to avoid delivery errors or rejection

  1. Active Channel: Your WhatsApp number must show as "Connected" in our platform (as completed in Part 1).

  2. Business Verification: While you can start with limited messaging, it is highly recommended to complete the Business Verification process in the Meta Security Center. This allows you to increase your daily messaging limits and access all template categories (such as Authentication).

  3. Policy Compliance: Familiarize yourself with the WhatsApp Commerce Policy. Templates violating these policies (e.g., selling prohibited items) will be rejected.

Accessing the Template Manager

  1. Enter the configuration of the WhatsApp channel you just connected.

  2. Navigate to the Templates tab. Here you will see the list of existing templates and their status (Approved, Rejected, Pending).

How to Create a New Template

1. Initial Configuration Click on the "Create Template" button. You must complete the following mandatory fields:

  • Template Name: Use lowercase letters and underscores (e.g., welcome_new_client).

  • Category: Select between Marketing, Utility, or Authentication.

  • Language: Choose the language of the message content.

2. Content Design Draft the body of the message. You can use dynamic variables (such as names or order numbers) using the format {{1}}, {{2}}.

  • Header (Optional): Can be text, image, or document.

  • Body: The main message.

  • Footer (Optional): Small text at the bottom of the message.

3. Submission for Approval Once finished, click on "Submit". The template will move to Pending status. Meta usually approves templates within seconds to a few minutes.

Important: You will only be able to use the template in your campaigns or automations once the status changes to APPROVED.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Why was my template rejected? Meta often rejects templates if the content is deemed promotional but was categorized as "Utility", or if the {{1}} variables lack sufficient context. Be sure to review WhatsApp's Commerce Policies.
